Eastern Shore Events September 2005

The September 2005 calendar of festivals, parades, carnivals and other events on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia. We also include Dover, the Delaware beaches, and Ocean City events.

September 2 - 4
National Hard Crab Derby and Fair
Crab races, crab picking, parade, contest, carnival, arts and crafts, seafood, entertainment, and fireworks. 58th annual. Crisfield, MD.

September 3 - 5
Deal Island Skipjack Races Festival
The skipjack is the last part of the commercial oyster sailing fleet of America. Once thousands of these boats oystered, crabbed and fished the Chesapeake Bay, but now there are less than 30 left, some are almost 100 years old. Gospel concert, arts and craft vendors, food, parade, rides for the children, a dance at the harbor, and the blessing of the fleet. Skipjack race on Monday. The boats head out to the starting point of the race, which can be watched from the beach, your boat, or the tour boats that will let you view them up close. A PHRF race runs at 9:15 AM, then the Skipjack Race at 9:30. For the rest of the day there will be Smith Island Crab Skiffs racing, swimming and fishing contests, and boat docking by the watermen in the afternoon.

September 10
Tuckahoe Outlaw Days
A weekend full of cowboy shoot-out shows, living history re-enactments, equine demonstrations, a tent full of free kid's games and a picnic area filled to the brim with great food and drinks. There will be a new section just for tiny tots to play and lots of contests. Cutest Cowpoke Contest. Tuckahoe Equestrian Center, Ridgley, MD.

September 15 - 18
Delmarva Bike Week
Not the kind you pedal. The roar of motorcycles comes to the Eastern Shore. Tattoos and t-shirts. Free concerts by Molly Hatchet, Blackfoot and Pat Travers. At Ocean Downs Race Track, Berlin, MD.

September 16 - 17
Onancock HarborFest
Contests, music, food and fun at the harbor in Onancock, VA.

September 17 - 18
Eastern Shore of Virginia Fine Art, Craft and Nonprofit Festival
An outdoor, juried exhibition and sale of painting, sculpture, photography, glass, wood, pottery, jewelry, mixed media, clothing, and furniture. In addition state and local nonprofit organizations will participate to distribute educational, recruit volunteers, and accept donations. 10:00 to 5:00. Downtown on the grounds of the Eastern Shore Railroad. Cape Charles, VA.

September 17 - 18
Native American Festival
Native American traditional dancers, singers and drumming. Vendors, crafts, artists demonstrations, food, hawk throw, large silent auction. Sponsored by Nause-Waiwash Band of Indians, Inc. Sailwinds Park, Cambridge, MD.

September 22 - 25
Ocean City SunFest
Ocean City's biggest festival. Artists and crafters with unique and distinctive offerings. Fabulous food vendors, gourmet items and more. Entertainers perform on indoor and outdoor stages, all entertainment free except nighttime ticketed events. Ocean City, MD.

September 23 - 25
Racing at the Dover International Speedway
A weekend of big-time races at the Monster Mile. Dover, DE.

September 24
Rock Hall FallFest
Main Street comes alive with music, artisans, crafts, trolley rides, madrigal performers, food, children's activities, watermens exhibits, and an oyster shucking contest at the harbor. Fun Run for kids. Evening concerts at The Mainstay. Rock Hall, MD.

September 24 - 25
Cambridge Summer Send-off
Skipjack races and the powerboat challenge. Cambridge, MD.
