Eastern Shore Events October 2005

The October 2005 calendar of festivals, parades, carnivals and other events on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and Virginia. We also include Dover, the Delaware beaches, and Ocean City events.

October 1
Mid-Atlantic Small Craft Festival
One of the nation's premier small craft events. Hundreds of amateur and professional boat builders and enthusiasts come from all over the region to display their skiffs, kayaks, and canoes. Take part in demonstrations and workshops, or simply chat with the owners and watch these one-of-a-kind vessels race. Included with Museum admission. Chesapeake Bay Maritime Museum. St Michaels, Md.

October 1
Blackwater Open House
8th annual. Also a celebration of National Wildlife Refuge Week. Bird walks, demonstrations, wildlife and refuge management programs, wildlife exhibits, live animal exhibits, tours, Jr Refuge Manager Program, puppet show, and many children's programs. Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge.

October 1
Hurlock Fall Festival
Parade, train rides, craft tables, line dancing, singing, band, music, DJ, pony rides, jolly jumper, games and more. Food. Hurlock, MD.

October 5
Harvest Festival
Famous seafood festival. Music and art show too. Sunset Beach, VA.

October 6 - 9
Endless Summer Cruisin'
Car shows, boardwalk parades, live entertainment on stage and more. This event is open to all Rods, Customs, Trick Trucks and Specialty Vehicles. Ocean City Inlet Parking Lot.

October 7
First Friday Onancock
After-work fun in the waterfront town of Onancock, VA. Stroll amongst stores that stay open until 8. Music. Dinner specials at the town's many restaurants.

October 7 - 9
Eastern Shore of Virginia Birding Festival
An annual celebration during the Fall migration of the Neotropical songbirds and raptors. Virginia's Eastern Shore creates a natural funnel focusing the migration of birds to the southernmost tip of the Peninsula. The area provides an excellent opportunity for novice and experienced birdwatchers to witness incredible numbers of birds congregated in preparation for their flight to the tropics. Sunset Beach, VA.

October 7 - 9
OC Oktoberfest
Continuous entertainment including Jolly Joe and the Bavarians, the Polka Jets and the Alpen Rose Dancers. Food and drink available including schnitzels, wursts and barrels of beer. Fun for the entire family includes sand art, face painting and puppet shows. Convention Center, Ocean City, Md.

October 8
Chincoteague Oyster Festival
33rd annual. All you can eat oysters and more. Chincoteague Island, VA.

October 15
Tilghman Island Day
Local seafood, music, watermen contests, championship docking contest, crafts, auction, skipjack and work boat rides, oyster shucking contest. Tilghman Island, Md.

October 15 - 16
Olde Princess Anne Days
Historic home and garden tour. Princess Anne, MD.

October 21 - 22
Halloween Haunted Hayride
Prepare to be scared. Costume contest too. Adkins Arboretum. Ridgely, MD.

October 22
Oktoberfest
Music, food, crafts, rock climbing, and pumpkin decorating. Contests, pony rides, miniature golf, children's events. Stevensville, MD.

October 28 - 30
Fall into St Michaels
Costume parade, ghost tours, pumpkin carving and pumpkin pie contests throughout town. The Bay Country Antiques Car show comes to St. Michaels Saturday and on Sunday see the Jack Russell Terrier Races and the newly added Dachschund Dash. St Michaels, Md.

October 28 - November 5
Candle Light Haunted Tales Walk
Walk through downtown Denton over a 1 mile course. Includes 20 scary and unusual stories retelling Denton and Caroline County history. The tour concludes with a sweet treat and beverage. Denton, MD.
